Google has announced a one-year free Gemini subscription for students in Pakistan as the technology giant begins its formal local operations in the country.

The announcement was made by Google’s Global Affairs Vice President Wilson L. White during an event in Islamabad marking the opening of Google’s local office. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the ceremony. Google said its presence in Pakistan would focus on digital skills, hardware manufacturing and supporting local businesses.

What will students get?

Gemini is Google’s artificial intelligence platform that can assist students with research, writing, studying, presentations, coding and other academic tasks.

Google has recently introduced several student-focused features, including Study Notebooks, Guided Learning, quizzes, flashcards and research tools. Study Notebooks can use students’ own learning materials to create personalized study plans and interactive lessons.

How can Pakistani students claim the free subscription?

The biggest question for students is how they will register.

At the time of the announcement, Google had not yet released the complete registration procedure, final eligibility criteria or verification process for the new Pakistan-specific offer.

Students should therefore avoid entering their Google credentials, university information or personal details on unofficial websites or links until Google publishes the official process.

Will every student be eligible?

It is also not yet completely clear whether the new offer will cover all students in Pakistan or whether eligibility will be limited to university or higher-education students.

Google previously offered eligible university students in Pakistan and other countries a free one-year Google AI Pro subscription. That offer included access to advanced Gemini features, Deep Research, NotebookLM, video-generation tools and 2TB of storage.

However, the terms of the newly announced Pakistan offer should not be assumed to be identical to last year’s programme.

Google expands its presence in Pakistan

The opening of Google’s local office marks a significant step in the company’s long-term engagement with Pakistan. Google has been working in the country for more than a decade through digital-skills and technology initiatives.

The Pakistani government has also been seeking deeper cooperation with Google in artificial intelligence, digital skills and technology. Official statements have linked Google’s growing presence with Pakistan’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Important clarification about the subscription price

Some reports have referred to a Rs850 monthly price for Gemini Plus and calculated annual savings on that basis. However, Google’s current Pakistan subscription page lists Google AI Plus at Rs1,400 per month and Google AI Pro at Rs5,600 per month.

Therefore, the exact monetary value of the new free student offer, along with its features and conditions, should only be confirmed after Google publishes the official terms.
