According to experts, if an air conditioner produces a burning smell or the odor of melting plastic, it should be switched off immediately. Such smells may indicate overheating wiring, damaged insulation, or a failing motor.
Unusual rattling, grinding, or loud noises may signal loose or worn-out components, such as the fan or compressor, which require prompt inspection before the problem worsens.
Experts also warn that if an AC unit becomes excessively hot during operation, it may indicate electrical faults that increase the risk of short circuits and fire.
A noticeable drop in cooling performance should not be ignored either. It may result from low refrigerant levels, a faulty compressor, or clogged filters, all of which require professional servicing.
Another major warning sign is sparks near the voltage stabilizer or electrical wiring, which could indicate faulty wiring or loose electrical connections and should be addressed immediately.
