The Punjab government has decided to introduce an advanced vehicle emission scanning system to strengthen monitoring of vehicles releasing excessive pollutants and to help control air pollution.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Environment and Climate Change Department, emission scanning systems will be installed at nine major entry and exit points of Lahore.
The spokesperson said modern remote-sensing devices will be capable of measuring pollutants in vehicle emissions without stopping the vehicles. The system will also record the vehicle’s registration number, speed, acceleration and scanning time.
The Environment Secretary said the use of modern technology would help make enforcement against air pollution more effective.
Officials said the Vehicle Emission Scanning System is being developed under the Lahore Air Improvement Framework.
