Supreme Court Upholds Widow's Right to Deceased Retired Employee's Pension
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has upheld a ruling of the Peshawar High Court, declaring that the widow of a deceased retired government employee is the lawful recipient of his pension and other post-retirement benefits.
The apex court ruled that pension benefits are intended to provide financial security to the deceased employee's immediate dependents, particularly the surviving spouse. Therefore, the widow is legally entitled to receive the pension, while the deceased employee's siblings have no legal claim over these benefits.
By upholding the Peshawar High Court's decision, the Supreme Court dismissed the siblings' claim and reinforced the legal protections available to widows under the country's pension laws.
Legal experts believe the ruling will serve as an important precedent for future pension-related disputes and provide greater clarity regarding the rights of surviving family members.
