More than 26,000 children are still out of school in Pakistan's federal capital, Islamabad, according to a briefing presented to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Education.
During the meeting chaired by Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, officials from the Ministry of Education informed lawmakers that 26,834 children remain out of school, including 14,013 boys and 12,821 girls.
The ministry stated that 8,714 children have already been enrolled in various educational institutions, while a comprehensive federal action plan has been prepared to bring the remaining children into the education system.
Officials also announced that a door-to-door survey will be conducted across all union councils in Islamabad to collect accurate data on out-of-school children. A survey carried out in 36 rural union councils, with the support of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), helped identify the current number of out-of-school children
