Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the fourth phase of the Green Tractor Scheme through digital balloting, while the online application portal for the fifth phase has also been opened.
Under Phase IV, the Punjab government will provide 10,000 tractors ranging from 50 to 65 horsepower, with a Rs750,000 subsidy on each tractor. The first tractor drawn in the digital balloting went to Masood Khan, son of Lal Khan, from Attock.
Under Phase V, 9,500 tractors with 75 to 125 horsepower will be provided, with a Rs1 million subsidy per tractor. The provincial government plans to provide a total of 19,500 tractors to farmers under the two phases during the current fiscal year.
More than 213,637 farmers applied for the programme, while 128,757 applicants were declared eligible for the balloting after verification through the Punjab Land Records Authority and NADRA.
The Punjab government has allocated Rs17.6 billion for the Green Tractor Programme. According to the Agriculture Department, farmers with at least five acres of agricultural land are eligible for Phase IV, while the Phase V criteria specify a minimum holding of seven acres.
