August is set to bring welcome relief for employees and students across Pakistan, with a combination of public holidays and weekly weekends expected to provide more days off than usual.
According to the 2026 calendar, two federal public holidays are expected during August. Since the month spans five weeks, there will also be five Saturdays and five Sundays, giving organizations that observe a two-day weekend a total of 12 holidays during the month.
Employees working in offices where only Sunday is observed as a weekly holiday are expected to receive seven days off, including five Sundays and the two federal public holidays.
The most significant holiday will be Pakistan's Independence Day on August 14, which falls on a Friday this year. Combined with Saturday and Sunday, many employees and students will enjoy a three-day long weekend from August 14 to 16.
The second expected public holiday will be Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), currently projected to fall on August 25 or 26, depending on the sighting of the moon. The final date will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, followed by an official notification from the federal government
