New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he remains willing to meet President Donald Trump whenever such discussions could benefit New Yorkers.
Speaking to CNN, Mamdani said political differences should not prevent public officials from communicating when there is an opportunity to work in the interests of the people they represent.
Mamdani said that if he were only willing to speak with people who agreed with him on everything, he would simply be “sitting at home looking in a mirror.”
Although Trump and Mamdani have publicly disagreed on several political issues and have previously criticized each other, their face-to-face meetings have generally been cordial. Their third in-person meeting took place at Gracie Mansion in New York on September 21, where they discussed issues including housing, affordability and matters affecting New Yorkers.
Mamdani also expressed disagreement with the Trump administration’s restrictions on certain media organizations, while maintaining that dialogue with the federal government remains important for addressing New York City’s needs.
