Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to international peace and security on the International Day of Peace, calling for respect for the United Nations Charter, international law and peaceful settlement of disputes.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in his message on the occasion, said that sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
He called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities by respecting the UN Charter and international law and by pursuing peaceful means for the fair and lasting resolution of disputes.
Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remains committed to a strong, inclusive and effective multilateral international system with the United Nations at its core.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping missions, saying the country has continued to demonstrate its commitment to international peace and security through its participation in peacekeeping efforts.
Pakistan also cited its diplomatic efforts aimed at the peaceful resolution of conflicts, including its role in efforts concerning the Iran-US conflict. Dar also referred to UN Security Council Resolution 2788 on strengthening mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
According to Pakistan’s position, unresolved conflicts contribute to regional and global insecurity, while lasting peace requires respect for the right of peoples to self-determination and implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Pakistan also referred to the situations in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, reiterating its stated commitment to promoting a peaceful and prosperous world through diplomatic and multilateral efforts.
