Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that preventing terrorism against Pakistan originating from Afghan soil is the responsibility of the Afghan Taliban regime.
In an interview with Arab News, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s clear and consistent demand from the Afghan Taliban government is to prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorist attacks against Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly made similar allegations regarding cross-border militant activity, while India and Afghan authorities have rejected such accusations.
The DG ISPR said that if the Afghan Taliban regime fails to fulfil its commitments under the Doha Agreement, Pakistan has the right to defend itself.
He also said that the state’s policy regarding militant groups is clear and that there will be no dialogue with terrorists.
Discussing the situation in Balochistan, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said terrorist groups do not enjoy public support and are attempting to impose their ideology through violence.
Pakistan’s military has also recently reported several clashes and attempted infiltrations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, describing the militants involved as being backed by India and accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of failing to prevent the use of Afghan territory for cross-border attacks.
On Saudi Arabia, the DG ISPR said Pakistan is standing with Saudi Arabia both practically and diplomatically. He said Pakistan remains committed to supporting the security of Saudi Arabia and the protection of the holy sites.
