The Islamabad High Court has issued its detailed written judgment in a petition concerning the PTI’s planned September 27 long march and protest, stating that any activity affecting the fundamental rights of Islamabad’s citizens would be considered a violation of the Constitution.
A three-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar had announced its decision on September 14. The court emphasised the protection of citizens’ freedom of movement, businesses and other fundamental rights. It also directed that government machinery and official resources must not be used for political protests.
The written judgment states that if the actions of a government official affect citizens’ fundamental rights, it may constitute a violation of the official’s oath. Those responsible for violating the Constitution and law may face legal consequences.
The court also referred to previous assurances and court directions involving PTI, noting that there had been instances in the past where assurances and judicial orders were not followed.
The court directed relevant provincial and federal authorities to ensure compliance with its directions concerning the proposed protest.
