Pakistan has reaffirmed its full support for Saudi Arabia in protecting the Two Holy Mosques and safeguarding the Kingdom’s sovereignty and regional security.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan was closely monitoring the situation arising from Houthi attacks in the Middle East and stood fully with Saudi Arabia in protecting the Holy Mosques. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security while condemning recent Houthi attacks.
The spokesperson said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had strongly condemned attacks targeting Makkah and other holy sites and called on all sides to exercise restraint.
Pakistan, he said, fully supports Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and regional security, while peace and stability in the region remain in the interests of Pakistan, Iran and other countries.
The Foreign Office also called on the Houthis to stop their activities and said Pakistan would continue supporting dialogue and diplomacy aimed at promoting peace and stability in the wider region. The Foreign Office has described the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia as defensive in nature.
According to the spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also spoke by telephone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on September 13. Pakistan reiterated its support for diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
