Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has backed a resolution calling for a reduction in petroleum prices and the abolition of the petroleum levy, saying people are facing difficulties because of high fuel prices.
The resolution seeking a reduction in petroleum product prices was presented in the Sindh Assembly by PTI lawmaker Muhammad Owais.
Speaking during the assembly session, Memon supported the resolution and said the public was under pressure because of rising petroleum prices. He claimed that the government was collecting more than Rs100 per litre in petroleum levy and called for its abolition.
Memon urged the federal government to eliminate the levy and provide relief to consumers. He also called on coalition parties represented in the federal cabinet to raise the issue with the government.
The Sindh information minister further urged the federal government to "wake up" and take steps to ease the burden on the public.
