ISLAMABAD: The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case has recorded the statement of his friend Hassan Tanoli, who is residing in Australia, through a video link.
Tanoli told the commission that Mir Raza had borrowed Rs75 million? Correction: Rs7.5 million (Rs75 lakh) from him for a chocolate business and had provided two cheques as security for the amount. According to Tanoli, Mir Raza had also assured him that the money would be returned.
He said Mir Raza had previously borrowed Rs1 million (Rs10 lakh), which he later repaid along with an additional Rs50,000.
Tanoli further told the commission that he contacted Ahmed on the day Mir Raza went missing. According to him, Ahmed said that Mir Raza was missing. Tanoli said that when he mentioned the financial matter, Ahmed responded that he had no connection with Mir Raza.
According to Tanoli, Mir Raza’s family believed that if Rs7.5 million had been invested in the business, Ahmed should have been aware of the transaction. He said the family believed the financial matter appeared to have been overlooked by Ahmed.
The statement forms part of the commission’s ongoing examination of the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s case.
