Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nasir Butt has accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of political blackmail, claiming that the party had pressured the PML-N over the approval of the federal budget.
Speaking on a Dawn News programme, Butt alleged that the PPP had warned that it would not allow the budget to be passed unless its demands were accepted.
He said political cooperation and reconciliation between parties were part of democratic politics, but no party should be allowed to force decisions through political pressure.
Commenting on the Balochistan government, Nasir Butt claimed that the PPP government had completed its two-and-a-half-year tenure and that the PML-N would now take back the provincial government from the PPP.
According to Butt, the PML-N had allowed the PPP to form the Balochistan government under an agreed political arrangement, and after completion of the two-and-a-half-year period, the PPP should voluntarily step aside in accordance with the understanding between the coalition partners.
The discussion also touched upon the elections in Azad Kashmir, with Butt and PPP leader Hassan Murtaza exchanging views over the election results and administrative control in the region.
Butt questioned whether Murtaza had won the Azad Kashmir elections. Murtaza responded that although the PML-N had won the elections, the result had come out according to its preference.
The two leaders also debated the political and administrative situation in Azad Kashmir, with Butt pointing out that the PPP had been in government there for the past six months.
