The federal government has announced a nationwide public holiday on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ.

The Cabinet Division issued the official notification following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ is observed every year on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The date was determined after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the crescent of Rabi-ul-Awwal had not been sighted during its meeting last week.

The occasion will be marked across Pakistan with Milad gatherings, Quran recitation, Naat recitations and Durood-o-Salam at mosques and other venues. Homes, mosques and streets are also expected to be decorated to mark the occasion.

Religious scholars are expected to highlight the teachings, character and Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and encourage people to follow his Sunnah and exemplary conduct in their daily lives.
