A meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reviewed the province's security situation, the operational performance of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), ongoing investigations, infrastructure and future requirements.
Officials briefed the meeting that banned militant and insurgent groups continue to pose a security challenge to Sindh, but terrorism-related incidents have declined significantly.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that 37 terrorism incidents were reported in the province in 2025, while the number has fallen to nine in 2026 so far, representing an approximately 76 percent decline.
According to the Sindh police chief, seven of the nine terrorism cases reported in 2026 have been traced and their investigations completed.
The meeting was told that the CTD conducted 918 intelligence-based operations this year, resulting in the arrest of 87 alleged terrorists, while four militants were killed in separate encounters. More than 2,000 kilograms of explosive material was also recovered during the operations.
Officials said several networks allegedly involved in attacks on police personnel and key installations had been dismantled. A network allegedly involved in attacks on railway tracks in northern Sindh was also disrupted, preventing planned sabotage activities.
The meeting was also briefed on progress in the investigation into the Karachi Training Centre attack. According to the inspector general of police, nine suspects have been arrested in the case and a Joint Investigation Team has been formed. Several alleged facilitators have also been identified during the investigation.
Officials said the CTD Fusion Centre had improved intelligence gathering and digital investigations. Hundreds of social media accounts allegedly linked to extremist activities were also blocked or reported.
The meeting also discussed additional resources for modern intelligence software and digital forensic tools, as well as strengthening crime analytics platforms and artificial intelligence-based systems.
Work on major CTD infrastructure projects across Sindh is reportedly underway, while construction of a separate CTD complex in Sukkur has also begun under the Annual Development Programme.
