Tehran: Iran has reportedly warned that if the United States targets its power plants or energy infrastructure, key electricity networks and critical infrastructure across Gulf countries could also become targets in a retaliatory response.
According to AFP, two Gulf officials said Iran conveyed warning messages indicating that any US military strike on Iranian energy facilities could trigger attacks on regional electricity infrastructure. However, Tehran has not officially confirmed or denied these reports.
The report also claims Iran shared a list of potential strategic targets that could be struck in retaliation, although no specific details have been made public.
The reported warning has raised concerns among Gulf states, whose economies, oil exports, desalination plants, telecommunications, and essential services rely heavily on stable electricity infrastructure.
The development comes after US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could target Iran's energy infrastructure if diplomatic efforts failed. He later said immediate military action had been postponed following requests from regional allies to allow negotiations another chance.
Diplomatic contacts involving the United States, Iran, Oman, Qatar, and other regional actors are continuing in an effort to reduce tensions, although several key issues remain unresolved.
