President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of 14 people in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.

The president called for those responsible for the incident to be identified and dealt with according to the law. He stressed that effective fire-safety measures and emergency arrangements must be ensured at hospitals, particularly for the protection of newborn babies and other vulnerable patients.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also taken notice of the tragic incident and directed authorities to conduct a detailed review of its causes and determine those responsible.

The prime minister ordered strict action against those found responsible. The incident has also raised serious questions about fire-safety and emergency arrangements at hospitals.
