The Senate Standing Committee on National Health has summoned an emergency meeting tomorrow following the tragic deaths of children at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to a notice issued by the Senate Secretariat, the meeting will be held at 12:00 noon tomorrow in the PIMS conference room and will be chaired by the committee’s chairman, Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti.

The notice states that the PIMS tragedy and the deaths of children will be the sole agenda of the meeting. Senior PIMS officials will brief the committee on the circumstances surrounding the incident, available facts and the progress made in the investigation so far.

The committee will also examine the medical protocols in place at the hospital, patient safety arrangements and any administrative shortcomings that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Following the briefing, committee members will visit the site of the incident as well as other departments of PIMS to assess the situation firsthand.

The committee is expected to examine accountability for those responsible and formulate recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
