Islamabad (Afzal Shah Yousafzai):- The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has sought the complete record of 1,200 allegedly irregular appointments made in the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) after reviewing the matter during its meeting.
Audit officials informed the committee that the appointments were allegedly made in violation of merit, advertisement requirements, and recruitment rules. They further stated that after show-cause notices were issued, the employees concerned approached the courts.
According to the audit authorities, the Karachi Port Trust has so far failed to provide the complete record of the employees despite repeated requests.
During the meeting, some committee members expressed concern that the absence of records could raise suspicions about the existence of ghost employees. However, the Chairman of Karachi Port Trust rejected the allegation, stating that all employees are actively performing their duties and that there are no ghost employees in the organization.
The KPT chairman also informed the committee that the appointments in question were made during the tenure of former Federal Minister Babar Ghauri.
The Public Accounts Committee directed the Karachi Port Trust to submit the complete recruitment record and instructed that action be taken against those responsible if any irregularities are established.
