A significant development has emerged in efforts to end the conflict in Gaza after the Board of Peace announced its support for U.S. President Donald Trump's comprehensive peace plan and released a detailed roadmap aimed at implementing a lasting ceasefire.
According to Arab media reports, all participating parties agreed on a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the restoration of normal civilian life, reconstruction efforts, and the strengthening of Palestinian governance through a unified administrative framework.
The Board of Peace stated that Israel must fulfill its obligations under the Sharm El-Sheikh Protocol, while Hamas and other Palestinian groups would be required to halt military operations as part of the agreement.
Under the proposed roadmap, all parties will prepare an implementation framework within 14 days, after which a National Commission will assume responsibility for Gaza's civilian administration. Hamas and other Palestinian groups have also expressed willingness to gradually transfer civil and security responsibilities to the commission.
The roadmap further calls for an international monitoring mechanism to oversee compliance with the agreement, while the National Commission will be responsible for restoring public services and ensuring the effective functioning of government institutions.
It also proposes that heavy weapons be placed under the control of the National Commission and international forces following their deployment. However, the process will be conditional upon the cessation of Israeli military operations and the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Reacting to the proposal, Hamas said it had engaged positively and responsibly in the second phase of peace negotiations and mediation efforts, adding that the implementation of the agreement would depend on Israel honoring its commitments regarding a ceasefire and withdrawal.
