The federal government has approved the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for a period of six months to perform sensitive security duties.
According to the deployment order, the decision was taken following a request from the Punjab Home Department, while the Ministry of Interior issued the order on August 21.
The deployed troops will perform security duties in the city and assist the civil administration in dealing with any unexpected security situation.
The deployment has been authorised under Article 245 of the Constitution, which allows the armed forces to assist the civil administration when required.
According to the order, the army personnel will perform their duties according to the requirements of the district administration. The deployment has been given immediate effect.
The order, however, does not specify the exact locations where the troops will be stationed or identify any particular threat or operation that prompted the decision.
The troops will remain available to assist the Rawalpindi administration during the six-month deployment period as part of the government's broader security arrangements.
