US President Donald Trump has mocked Iran’s leadership, claiming that no one in the country wants to become president, which he described as a problem for him.

Speaking at a political rally in South Carolina in support of Senator Lindsey Graham, Trump said that his biggest difficulty was not knowing who he should speak to in Iran.

Trump claimed that Iran’s top leadership had been eliminated, while the second tier of leadership had also been wiped out and some members of the third level had been killed.

The US president further claimed that Iran no longer possessed its previous capabilities to produce naval and air forces, radar systems, technical equipment and other defence-related hardware.

Mocking the situation in Iran, Trump said it was the only country where nobody wanted to become president. According to Trump, when people ask who will become president, the response is: “No, I don’t want to be president.”

Trump said the uncertainty over Iran’s leadership was a major problem because he did not know who he could negotiate or communicate with.

His remarks come amid continuing tensions between Iran and the United States, with developments surrounding Iran’s political and military leadership remaining a major international concern.
