Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to simplify access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and accelerate efforts to increase Pakistan's exports.
Chairing a meeting on the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), the Prime Minister said SMEs are a key driver of Pakistan's economy, employment generation, and export growth, emphasizing that barriers facing the sector should be removed without delay.
He instructed relevant authorities to provide farmers with technical assistance, awareness, and easy financing for the processing and value addition of agricultural products, fruits, and other produce to enhance agricultural exports.
The Prime Minister also directed the State Bank of Pakistan and commercial banks to formulate a comprehensive strategy to improve SMEs' access to affordable financing. He emphasized that new entrepreneurs should receive guidance on feasibility studies, business planning, and other essential aspects of starting and managing businesses.
Special emphasis was placed on supporting young entrepreneurs, particularly women, in establishing and expanding SMEs. During the meeting, officials informed participants that 700 Pakistani SMEs are scheduled to participate in 16 international trade exhibitions this year, while training programs on financial regulations, business planning, and modern entrepreneurial skills have been conducted in 35 cities across the country to strengthen the SME sector.
