Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has mocked US Vice President JD Vance over his remarks linking the Republican Party's midterm election defeat to the war with Iran.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf compared Vance's approach to that of a gambler who refuses to leave the table despite repeated losses. He also advised the US vice president to present his views directly to his boss, President Donald Trump, rather than delivering lengthy explanations.

Ghalibaf's remarks came after Vance acknowledged that the war with Iran was a major factor behind the Republican Party's electoral setback.

Vance also referred to voter concerns over inflation, the Iran conflict, US interests and relations with Israel. He said disagreements within the Republican Party over the reasons for the defeat could emerge following the election.
