Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has responded to criticism from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, claiming that before the discussion over governor’s rule, JUI leaders had been saying they wanted to be rid of the people concerned.

Speaking in the Senate, Naqvi said he had personally respected Fazlur Rehman, but added that the latter’s recent remarks had left little room for respect.

Responding to Fazlur Rehman’s comments about the state, the interior minister said that those who criticize others should also be prepared to hear a response. Opposition members created a commotion in the chamber during his speech.

Naqvi also clarified the purpose of his recent visit to Iran, saying it was not related to a defence agreement. He rejected Fazlur Rehman’s claim that the visit had been made for negotiations on such an agreement.
