Former captain Wasim Akram has declined offers from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to join as either the CEO or advisor to the Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. The offers came amidst criticism of Naqvi for allegedly neglecting cricket responsibilities due to his dual roles as Interior Minister and PCB Chairman.

Akram’s decision was influenced by practical challenges related to relocating from his permanent residence in Karachi to Lahore and his frequent travels to Australia for family reasons. Despite the formal offers, Akram expressed a willingness to assist Pakistan cricket on a voluntary basis, rather than taking on a full-time role.

Following Akram’s refusal, PCB officials have shifted their focus to Waqar Younis, another prominent former cricketer. Younis, who has shown interest in moving back to Lahore, has already held discussions with Naqvi about the potential positions. However, no formal announcement regarding Younis’s appointment has been made by the board yet.

This series of events highlights ongoing challenges within the PCB as it navigates leadership roles and seeks to stabilize its management structure while addressing the concerns of cricket stakeholders. The board’s efforts to secure a suitable candidate for these critical positions continue amid heightened scrutiny and expectations from the cricketing community.
