The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that former selection committee member Wahab Riaz will participate in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) High-Performance coaching workshop in Maldives. The workshop is scheduled to take place on July 29-30 and will also feature former Test cricketer Shahid Anwar, who is currently the head coach at the National Cricket Academy.

According to the PCB, the two-day workshop aims to provide participants with the latest coaching techniques and strategies for identifying and developing talent from the grassroots level. This initiative is part of the ICC’s ongoing training and education programme to equip member countries with quality Level 2 tutors who will then train local coaches.

In addition to the workshop, General Manager Academies Dr. Imran Abbas will attend a four-day ICC Level-2 Tutors training course in Malé starting on July 24. The course will be conducted by former Pakistan cricketer Iqbal Sikander and former Bangladesh Test captain Amin-ul-Islam.

The announcement comes in the wake of significant changes within the PCB following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. On July 10, the PCB sacked Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from the selection committee, with Wahab also being removed from his position as senior team manager. Team manager Mansoor Rana also lost his job in the aftermath.

Following his removal, Wahab Riaz expressed his gratitude for his time with the selection committee through a social media post. He emphasized his dedication to Pakistan cricket and the honor of serving as part of the selection panel. “There is a lot I can say but I don’t want to be part of the blame games,” wrote Wahab. “I have served the game I love with faith and sincerity and have given 100 percent for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”

Wahab’s participation in the ICC workshop marks a new chapter in his cricketing career, as he continues to contribute to the sport through coaching and mentorship.
