US Denies Any Role in Imran Khan’s Ouster, Calling Allegations “Baseless”
In a press conference in Washington, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reiterated the US position on allegations of interference in former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s removal from office, labeling such claims as “baseless.” Miller clarified that the legal proceedings against Khan are entirely for Pakistan’s judiciary to handle, dismissing any insinuation of American involvement.
The allegations surfaced in connection with claims made by Latif Khosa, a senior PTI leader and lawyer, suggesting that a potential victory for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming US elections could influence Khan’s release from prison. Miller responded firmly, asserting that Pakistan’s political decisions are determined solely by the Pakistani people.
When asked about unrelated allegations from Canada accusing Indian federal minister Amit Shah of involvement in a conspiracy against Sikh communities, Miller expressed concern and noted that the US would continue its consultations with Canada on the matter.
Khosa had previously indicated that Khan might receive judicial relief in November and dismissed rumors of a “deal” influencing his release. He speculated that if Trump were to win the US presidential elections, it could alter the political dynamics in Pakistan in favor of Khan’s release, though no direct link between the two has been established.
