UN Warns of Rising TTP Threat, Afghan Taliban Support Amplifies Danger

The United Nations has officially recognized the growing threat posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in South and Central Asia. Denmark’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Sandra Jensen Lundy, presented a detailed report to the Security Council highlighting TTP’s involvement in multiple high-profile attacks against Pakistan, some resulting in significant casualties.

The report also revealed that TTP receives “substantial and mandatory” support from Afghanistan’s Taliban government, including logistical and financial assistance. According to the briefing, TTP’s estimated strength of 6,000 fighters makes it a serious security challenge that cannot be ignored.

Lundy also raised concerns about rising threats from ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and regional terror networks, noting that foreign terrorist movements between the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia continue to pose global security risks.

Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jedon, reiterated that Pakistan remains a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, having sacrificed over 80,000 lives and endured billions of dollars in economic losses in the war on terror.
