UN Again Lists Israel for Violations Against Children in Conflict Zones

For the second year in a row, the United Nations has included Israel in its annual report on grave violations against children in armed conflict. The 2024 report, which highlights global instances of child abuse in war zones, documents 41,370 verified grave violations worldwide. Alarmingly, more than 8,000 — nearly 20% — of these were attributed to Israeli forces operating in the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to the report’s annex, Israel is listed as a “party that kills and maims children” and one that “attacks schools and hospitals.” The listing is based on verified incidents and follows long-standing criticism that political pressure previously prevented Israel’s inclusion.

This is the second consecutive year Israel appears on the list, having been added officially for the first time in 2023. Its continued presence has reignited international concern over the protection of children in conflict zones, especially in Gaza and the West Bank.

Human rights organizations have welcomed the report, calling it a crucial step toward accountability. The report underscores the urgent need for all parties in conflict — whether state or non-state actors — to uphold international humanitarian standards and prioritize the safety and rights of children.
