U.S. to Deport Migrants with Just 6 Hours’ Notice Under New Policy
In a dramatic policy shift, the U.S. government has decided to allow the deportation of migrants with only six hours’ notice, following a recent Supreme Court ruling that simplifies the removal process.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency issued a notice confirming the change. According to Deputy Director Todd Lyons, in normal situations, migrants will now be given just 6 hours’ notice before deportation, instead of the previous 24-hour window. In emergency cases, the process could be even faster.
The move has sparked sharp criticism from immigration attorneys and human rights advocates. Trina Realmuto, head of a refugee rights union, warned that thousands of lives could be placed at risk—especially those who fled their home countries due to violence and persecution.
The union has pledged to challenge the policy in court, calling it an unjust and dangerous decision that disregards fundamental human rights.
