Trump Urges Israel to Cancel Netanyahu’s Trial or Issue Presidential Pardon

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on Israeli authorities to immediately cancel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial or issue him a presidential pardon, calling the charges a politically motivated “witch-hunt.”

In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump lavished praise on Netanyahu, calling him a “great hero” and “warrior,” and blasted Israel’s justice system for proceeding with the trial.

“Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a pardon given to a great hero,” Trump posted. “Such a WITCH HUNT is unthinkable.”

Netanyahu is facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases. Despite denying all allegations, he remains under legal scrutiny as cross-examinations continue.

Trump’s plea, although symbolic, underscores his close relationship with Netanyahu. Under Israeli law, only President Isaac Herzog has the power to grant a pardon, and he has reportedly ruled it out “at this time.”

Trump’s remarks came just a day after he criticized Israel for bombing Iran shortly after a ceasefire agreement, signaling growing friction in U.S.-Israel ties.

Observers see Trump’s comments as political posturing, reflecting loyalty to Netanyahu more than actual legal influence.
