Trump Promises to Revive U.S. Auto Industry with 100% Tariff on Imported Cars

Savannah, Georgia – In a bold move to bring jobs back to America, former President Donald Trump on Tuesday pledged to stop U.S. businesses from shipping jobs overseas and to lure foreign factories to American soil. Speaking at an event in Savannah, Georgia, Trump proposed imposing a 100% tariff on every car imported from Mexico, urging automakers to manufacture vehicles in the U.S. instead.

“I want German car companies to become American car companies. I want them to build their plants here,” Trump declared, signaling his intention to shift auto manufacturing back to the United States. Trump’s plan is a continuation of his America-first economic policy that he pushed during his presidency.

His proposed tariffs could dramatically alter the U.S. auto industry, where many automakers currently build smaller, cost-effective models in countries like Mexico due to lower labor costs. German automakers, such as BMW and Volkswagen, already have extensive operations in the U.S., but further expansion could lead to production inefficiencies in their home factories, causing a ripple effect in the global automotive market.

Experts warn that these tariffs might lead to higher prices for consumers and complex shifts in manufacturing dynamics. Sam Abuelsamid, a principal research analyst for Guidehouse Insights, noted that if German automakers were to shift more production to the U.S., their European plants might suffer from reduced efficiency due to lower production volumes.
