Transgender Leaders Cry for Justice in KP, “We Are Being Killed and Ignored”

Provincial transgender leaders Farzana Riaz and Arzoo held a joint press conference in Mardan, revealing the escalating violence and lack of protection for transgender persons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They stated that it has become nearly impossible for transgender individuals to survive in KP. “We are being shot at and killed brutally; extortion by snatchers is rampant in every district, forcing us to pay thousands and even lakhs in protection money,” said the leaders.
They criticized the provincial government and IGP for their failure to enforce protection laws and their non-serious attitude toward the transgender community.
The leaders also mentioned a recent incident in Mardan where a transgender individual was critically injured in a shooting, yet local police refused to register an FIR or arrest the culprits.
Since 2015, 158 transgender persons have been murdered across KP. The community demands stricter laws and genuine action from the government and police to ensure their safety and dignity.
