Torkham Border Remains Closed for 25th Consecutive Day, Bilateral Trade at a Standstill

The key Pakistan-Afghanistan trade route, the Torkham border, remains closed for the 25th consecutive day.
According to customs officials, long queues of cargo trucks continue on both sides as import, export, and transit trade remain suspended.

Pakistan exports cement, medicines, textiles, fresh fruits, and vegetables to Afghanistan, while coal, soapstone, and dried fruits are imported in return.

Sources estimate that bilateral trade worth Rs 850 million per day has been disrupted — including Rs 580 million in exports and Rs 250 million in imports. The closure is causing a daily loss of around Rs 50 million to Pakistan’s national revenue.

Immigration authorities stated that the border was recently opened for three days to facilitate the return of undocumented Afghan nationals, but trade activities remain completely halted. Business communities on both sides continue to urge for the restoration of normal trade flow.
