Tony Blair to Play Role in Gaza Reconstruction, Palestinian Authority Grants Approval

The Palestinian Authority has reportedly approved former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza, The Guardian reported on Monday.
According to the report, Blair met with Palestinian Authority’s Deputy Head, Hussein al-Sheikh, in Amman, Jordan, where they discussed the post-war situation in Gaza, a possible ceasefire, the release of prisoners, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Hussein al-Sheikh stated that “we are ready to work with President Trump, Tony Blair, and other partners to establish a lasting peace, ceasefire, and reconstruction process in the region.”
However, Hamas has strongly opposed Blair’s involvement, stating that no foreign body should have guardianship over Palestine and that such roles undermine Palestinian sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Palestinian officials emphasized the urgent need for Israel to release the withheld tax revenues that have worsened the Authority’s financial crisis.
In Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump commented that it remains unclear how much support Tony Blair enjoys among world leaders for this proposed role.
