Thanksgiving Travel to Hit Record High with Nearly 80 Million Americans on the Move
Thanksgiving holiday period is poised to break all previous travel records, with nearly 80 million Americans set to hit the roads, board flights, and embark on cruises, according to AAA.
From November 26 to December 2, about 1.7 million more people will travel than during the same period last year. Airlines are bracing for a record number of passengers, with American Airlines expecting to transport 8.3 million customers and Delta Air Lines preparing for 6.5 million travelers over the holiday season.
Road trips remain the most popular mode of travel, with an estimated 71.7 million people hitting the highways, aided by declining gas prices, which may drop below $3 a gallon nationally for the first time since 2021.
Cruises and train travel are also surging, with domestic and international cruise bookings up by 20% compared to last Thanksgiving.
While airfare prices have risen domestically by 9% from last year, international travel costs have dropped by 5%, making it a more affordable option for many.
