Syrian Hijab singer attracts millions of views
In a Dubai recording studio, 26-year-old Syrian singer Ghaliaa Chaker is making headlines not just for her music but for her groundbreaking presence in the Middle Eastern entertainment industry. Known for her distinctive sound and hijab-clad appearance, Chaker has become a social media sensation with 437,000 followers on Instagram and millions of views on her YouTube channel.
Raised in the United Arab Emirates, Chaker began composing and writing lyrics at the age of 16. Her journey into music was inspired by Nedaa Shrara, a veiled Jordanian singer who gained fame by winning “The Voice” Arabic version in 2015. Despite facing criticism, Shrara became a symbol of self-confidence for Chaker, prompting her to follow her own musical aspirations.
Chaker’s first song, an English composition released in 2018, received airplay on Dubai radio stations, marking the start of her career. Now singing mostly in Arabic, Chaker stands out in a regional music scene that is increasingly embracing innovative sounds and young talent.
Chaker’s success is more than just a personal achievement; she hopes to pave the way for other hijabi singers and inspire those who may feel restricted by societal norms. Her story resonates with many as she continues to challenge stereotypes and offer a refreshing perspective in the music industry.
