Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Modern Bowlers’ Refreshment Habits
Former Indian Test cricketer and captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his disapproval of modern bowlers’ habits of taking refreshments at the boundary line. According to media reports, the 75-year-old former cricketer and commentator criticized this practice, highlighting that bowlers often head to the boundary line for drinks or snacks immediately after an over ends.
Gavaskar emphasized that apart from the scheduled drinks breaks, bowlers frequently indulging in refreshments is a bad habit. He noted that current bowlers often drink refreshments at the boundary line after each over and then return to fielding, while the ICC, franchise boards, and national boards have turned a blind eye to this issue.
“The current ICC rules benefit only the bowlers,” Gavaskar said. “Bowlers are getting refreshed after every over, but what about the batters? Bowlers have the advantage of refreshing themselves after bowling six balls, but there is no such facility for batters to score runs within an over.”
Gavaskar further stated that stamina is a crucial requirement for players in any format of the game. He advocated for a return to the traditional system where drinks breaks are taken only once every hour, with the permission of the umpire or captain.
