Sumood Flotilla: Global Civil Society Sets Sail to Break Gaza Siege

Amid Israel’s ongoing siege and silence from world governments, global civil society has stepped in. The “Global Sumood Flotilla,” comprising delegates from 44 countries, is set to sail from Spain and Tunisia later this month to deliver food and medicines directly to the besieged people of Gaza.

The initiative unites three major movements — Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Global Movement for Gaza, and Maghreb Sumood Convoy — all dedicated to breaking Israel’s blockade through peaceful, nonviolent resistance.

The flotilla enjoys support from prominent global figures, including Greta Thunberg, Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, Liam Cunningham, and Italian artists who raised their voices at the Venice Film Festival. Pakistan is also part of the mission, with doctors, media professionals, and social leaders on board.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its attacks, bombing Gaza’s Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, killing at least 20 people, including journalists. The UN has already declared famine in Gaza, with over two million people on the brink of starvation — raising urgent questions about global silence.
