Sri Lankan U-19 Cricket Captain Dhammika Niroshana Tragically Shot Dead
Dhammika Niroshana, the former captain of Sri Lanka’s U-19 cricket team, was fatally shot at his home in Ambalangoda. According to media reports, the incident occurred late at night, with Niroshana being targeted in his residence on Konda Mawatha while he was with his wife and two children.
The assailant reportedly used a 12-bore pistol to carry out the attack. Upon receiving the news, the police quickly arrived at the scene, took the body into custody, and initiated formal proceedings.
Dhammika Niroshana was renowned as one of Sri Lanka’s finest all-rounders, having played alongside cricketing stalwarts such as Farveez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews, and Upul Tharanga. Despite his promising career, Niroshana announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 20.
Between 2001 and 2004, Niroshana played for Galle Cricket Club, participating in 12 first-class matches and 8 List A matches, amassing over 300 runs and claiming 19 wickets. He made his debut for Sri Lanka’s U-19 team in 2000 and served as captain for two years.
