Sri Lanka Recall Oshada Fernando for Test Series Against New Zealand After Stellar ‘A’ Team Performance
Sri Lanka have recalled top-order batsman Oshada Fernando to their 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match test series against New Zealand, set to begin on Wednesday in Galle. Oshada’s return to the squad comes after his impressive performance for Sri Lanka ‘A’ in a recent series against South Africa, where he scored 122 and 80.
The decision to bring Oshada back comes at the expense of opener Nishan Madushka, who had a difficult time in Sri Lanka’s recent test series defeat to England, where he managed just 24 runs in four innings. Also left out are bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Nisala Tharaka, with wicketkeeper-batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama being included.
Dhananjaya De Silva will lead the Sri Lankan side as they face New Zealand in a crucial two-test series that is part of the International Cricket Council’s World Test Championship cycle. The team is looking to bounce back after their recent series defeat in England, and the inclusion of in-form players like Oshada Fernando could be key to their success.
