“Sign the Trade Deal or Face Economic Blow” Trump Warns India of 25% Tariff Threat

U.S. President Donald Trump has delivered a direct warning to India, stating that failure to reach a comprehensive trade agreement will lead to a steep 25% tariff on Indian imports to the American market.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said, “India may be a friendly country, but it imposes the highest import tariffs globally — and that’s unacceptable.”

He noted that the U.S. and India still lack a proper trade deal, and if there’s no progress soon, Washington will not hesitate to impose heavy tariffs on Indian goods. This echoes his previous warning in April, when he hinted at a 26% tariff, later postponed till July.

Trump had earlier blocked Tesla’s proposed manufacturing plant in India, citing negative impacts on U.S. industry. He also warned tech giant Apple that if it doesn’t produce its products in the U.S., it too will face a 25% tariff.

“We want every iPhone sold in America to be made on American soil,” he declared. “If it’s made in India or elsewhere, Apple will pay the price.”
