SHC Sets Hearing on Petition Against Sealing of Arif Alvi’s Dental Clinic

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday set a hearing to address the petition filed by former president Arif Alvi’s family against the recent sealing of his dental clinic in Karachi. Arif Alvi’s wife, Samina Alvi, and son, Awasb Alvi, moved the SHC, arguing that the sealing of the clinic by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) was an act of political revenge.
According to Barrister Ali Tahir, representing the Alvi family, the SBCA sealed the clinic without issuing any prior notice. He contended that the clinic, located in the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society (SMCHS), had been operational for many years without issue. However, he believes that the sealing is part of a campaign to harass Arif Alvi on political grounds following his tenure as president.
The SBCA, on the other hand, maintains that the clinic was sealed because it was established in a residential bungalow, violating zoning laws. The authority cited complaints about commercial activities in the residential area as the reason behind their action.
The two-member bench of the Sindh High Court will hear the case, and the outcome could have significant political implications.
