Security sources have strongly reacted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan’s recent demand for an open trial of former intelligence chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, questioning the former prime minister’s authority to dictate such proceedings.

During an informal discussion with journalists at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan called for an open trial of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, sparking controversy. In response, security sources questioned, “Who is the founding chairman to tell whether there will be an open trial of Faiz Hameed or not?”

The sources assured that if Imran Khan himself is put on trial in connection with the ongoing case, there will be complete transparency. “If there is a trial of the founding chairman in this case, rest assured, it will be open,” they asserted, hinting that the proceedings would fully expose Khan’s actions and conduct.

This sharp reaction from security circles comes as Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, continues to make provocative statements, including asserting that both his case and that of Faiz Hameed are of national importance, impacting Pakistan’s global reputation.

He claimed that the trial should not be confined to military courts, arguing, “I’m a former civilian prime minister, and my trial in a military court will tarnish the reputation of Pakistan.”

Imran Khan further downplayed the significance of General Faiz Hameed after his retirement, stating that he had lost his status and questioning the value of maintaining ties with him. Khan also insisted that if Faiz Hameed is the central figure in the May 9 conspiracy, he should be tried in an open court to maintain transparency and public trust.
