Former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Sana Mir has become the first female cricketer from Pakistan to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, marking a historic milestone for women’s sports in the country. The announcement was made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) during a special ceremony at Abbey Road Studios, London, near Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Sana joins six other cricket legends in the 2024 inductee list, including MS Dhoni (India), Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla (South Africa), Matthew Hayden (Australia), Daniel Vettori (New Zealand), and Sarah Taylor (England).

Mir represented Pakistan in 226 international matches from 2005 to 2020, claiming 151 ODI wickets — the highest for Pakistan — and scoring over 2,400 runs in limited-overs cricket. She was also ranked No.1 ODI bowler in 2018 and remains one of only nine women globally to take 100+ wickets and score 1,000+ runs in ODIs.

“This is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine as a little girl who simply dreamed of seeing a women’s cricket team in Pakistan,” said Sana in her acceptance speech.

She captained Pakistan in two Asian Games gold medal wins (2010 and 2014), featured in five ICC T20 World Cups, and served on the ICC Women’s Committee. Her off-field advocacy for mental health, body positivity, and women’s empowerment was also acknowledged.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated her: “Well done, Sana Mir! You have raised Pakistan’s flag high on the global stage. This is a proud moment for our nation and a huge step forward for women’s cricket.”

The ICC described Mir’s career as one that “shaped cricket’s legacy and inspired generations,” with ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice stating that the 2024 class represents the finest in cricket history.
