Salman Naseer to Move to PSL, Sumair Ahmed Syed Expected as New COO
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is on the verge of significant leadership changes, with sources indicating that Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer is likely to take up a senior role within the Pakistan Super League (PSL). PCB is reportedly preparing to appoint Naseer as Managing Director or Head of PSL, marking a strategic shift in the league’s management structure.
In his place, Sumair Ahmed Syed, the former Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, is expected to be appointed as PCB’s new COO on deputation from the Prime Minister’s House. Syed’s appointment is anticipated soon, and he will work under the PCB Chairman, with Naseer expected to report directly to him.
Additional restructuring is anticipated within the PSL, with Usman Wahla, the current International Director, being considered for the position of PSL Director. This potential move has reportedly sparked concerns among PSL franchises, who support Naseer’s shift but have reservations about Wahla’s appointment.
These developments come amid broader discussions on the future direction of PSL management, where franchise owners are increasingly vocal about governance and operational strategies. This restructuring could have far-reaching implications for both PCB and PSL as they look to maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders and deliver a successful tournament in the upcoming season.
