Islamabad: In a disturbing revelation, Pakistani NGO Sahil has reported 1956 cases of child abuse in the first six months of 2025, out of which 950 were related to sexual assault. These figures were published in their semi-annual report focused on child safety and protection.

Between January and June, 605 cases of abduction, 192 missing children, 34 cases of underage marriage or vani, and 62 incidents involving newborns found dead or abandoned were recorded.

The report also noted that 52% of victims were girls, 44% boys, and 3% newborns. The most affected age group was 11–15 years, accounting for 658 abuse cases. Of these, 72% were reported in Punjab and 22% in Sindh.

Shockingly, in 49% of cases, the perpetrator was known to the victim, while 20% involved strangers. Urban areas accounted for 59% of cases, rural areas 41%.

Sahil, working since 1996, has continued its mission to provide legal and psychological support to child victims and advocates for a violence-free environment for children in Pakistan.
